Daichi to Kaze Habaki

Daichi to Kaze Habaki is a component piece of koshirae (installation of a katana). It is a piece of metal that has a double role: it blocks the tsuba and keeps the blade in saya (sheath). This model is differentiated by the quality of the finish, by dividing the habaki into two surfaces.

An eloquent example is for katana when this is in the sheath: in order to be prepared for the fight, he starts saya with the left hand in the upper part and with the thumb (thumb) press on tsuba (guard) enough to release habaki FROM saya. Now katana is ready for battle, the sword can be pulled out of the sheath in a flash. This technique is called koiguchi-no-kirikata.

It also signifies an extremely aggressive gesture called Koiguchi-o kiru or Tanka a Kiru. In Japan the expression Tanka a Kiru is currently used in the sense of "preparing to start something", or "preparing to speak", especially with an aggressive connotation.

Habaki will cause problems over time koiguchi and either will have to be repaired saya or will need to be replaced to prevent loss katana from the sheath.

Also, don't forget to grease the blade underneath habaki after performing the Tameshigiri (cuts).
