The white belt is the first belt for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners. This rank is held by any new BJJ practitioner and has no prerequisites. Some instructors believe that the white belt holder must gain more confidence and abandon defensive positions, often fighting against more advanced colleagues.
