Bokken Bamboo. Boken (木剣, book, "wood", ken, "sword") (or bokutō 木刀 as it is also called in Japan) is a wooden sword used in training.
There are different types of bokken, depending on the material used and its shape.
- Daito or shut up – bokken the size of a sword;
- shoto or kodachi - it is also called wakizashi bo – has the size of a short sword;
- so much – is the size of a so much;
- sober – bokken the size of a sword;
AJKF specified standard dimensions for bokken-es used in Nippon Kendo Kata:
• shut up – total length 102 cm; length Tsuki (handle) 24 cm (approx);
• kodachi – total length 55 cm; length Tsuki (handle) 14 cm (approx.);
This bokken is made of bamboo wood. It is lighter than oak, so easier to use in training.
