Indian Club

Indian Club is strength building exercise equipment. They have different shapes and weights. Indian Club can vary from 300-500 grams to tens of kilograms.

The exercises were included in carefully choreographed sequences. The lessons are held with an instructor in front, similar to aerobics lessons.

The country of origin of these training tools is Persia (Iran). In Iran they are called Miel or Mils.

The first records related to the use of the Indin Club were made mentioning their use by fighters in ancient Persia, Egypt and the rest of the Middle East. Exercising with the Indian Club continues to this day, especially the tradition varzesh e bastani (ancient sport) practiced in Zoorkhanehof Iran. From Persia, the Mughals brought these training devices to India where they are still used today by fighters to train.

When India was conquered by the British they thought they were of Indian origin and named them Indian Club.

Towards the end of the Victorian Era Indian Clubs were extremely popular. Indian Club was used by military cadets but also by high society ladies! They were even present at the 1904 and 1932 Olympic Games.

Towards the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the popularity of the Indian Club was at its peak in Europe, the United States and the countries of the British Commonwealth.

As a joke, in 1903-1904 women's suffragettes - the suffragettes - carried Indian Clubs as concealed weapons for use against police batons.

The popularity of the Indian Club declined from the 1920s to the 1930s with the specialization of athletes and the professional approach to sports training.

Indian Club are a rediscovered treasure these days! They are devices used both in the training of professional fighters and in the training of athletes in other sports, helping to develop strength, improve mobility and strengthen tendons and joints. It is an extremely important device in sports such as chanbara, MMA, judo, kickboxing, boxing, wrestling, karate, taekwondo, etc.
