Bokken white oak

Boken (木剣, book, "wood", ken, "sword") (or bokutō 木刀 as it is also called in Japan) is a wooden sword used in training.

Bokenis a relatively inexpensive substitute for katana, used mainly by practitioners of kenjutsu, aikido and kendo. It is cheaper but also much safer to use one for training bokken than a katana or one here it is. However, do not neglect the danger of injury. Injuries can be serious or even fatal if you practice unsupervised or irresponsibly.

There are different types of bokken, depending on the material used and its shape.

  1. Daito or shut upbokken the size of a sword;
  2. shoto or kodachi - it is also called wakizashi bo – has the size of a short sword;
  3. so much – is the size of a so much;
  4. sober – bokken the size of a sword;

All Japan Kendo Federation specified standard dimensions for bokken-es used in Nippon Kendo Kata:

shut up – total length 102 cm; length Tsuki (handle) 24 cm (approx);

kodachi – total length 55 cm; length Tsuki (handle) 14 cm (approx.);

Japanese oak is different from European or American oak. This type of oak is evergreen.

Although in appearance the red oak weapons— akagashi – those made of white oak are visually more attractive – shirogashi – they are more resistant and qualitatively better. Japanese oak is a rather rare and very expensive wood. Mostly, the oak used for making bokken-ers nowadays is imported from China (even Japan). As a price, most of the time, a shirogashi bokken (bokken made of white oak) is double the price of one akagashi bokken (red oak bokken).

Japanese oak – Gash it is different from the European oak. This type of oak is evergreen. For this reason, unlike European oak, Japanese oak does not have the visible grain of ordinary oak.

The structure of European oak (with visible grain) produces soft areas that are prone to warping or breaking in impact areas. To the Japanese oak used at bokkenhigh quality ones this defect does not appear.

a bokken FROM akagashi it has a uniform structure, with uniform weight, is very resistant and responds well to impact.

Compared to akagashi, shirogashi has denser fibers. This makes it somewhat heavier and more durable.

Because of these qualities shirogashi became the preferred material for making bokkenof high quality.
